Yoga is not about being a hardbody or creating the "perfect" beach body for Instagram. (There's no such thing!) It's not for young people or women only, and it's definitely not about being contortionist-flexible, willow-thin, or holding impossible postures for minutes on end.
Instead, yoga is about uniting the body and mind in a series of physical and mindfulness exercises that anyone can do to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, improve blood and joint-fluid circulation, and improve sleep and overall well-being. It's a no-judgment zone where we put aside self-consciousness and self-criticism, and stop comparing ourselves to our neighbors -- or even to what we think we should be. Yoga is a place to be whole, to be present, and to be aware of what we need, who we are in our practice, and what we can be grateful for. Yoga is about fulfilling our own potential in this moment, every time we walk into practice.
